  • What can I pay for online?

    Please visit our payment selection service for more information on what we accept payments for.
  • How do I make a payment online?

    The online payment system will ask you to identify yourself first and then will ask what you would like to pay for. For further guidance when using the online payment system please click the 'help' button. No payments will be taken until you are asked to confirm payment.
  • Can I make a payment by another method?

  • Can I make a payment for less than the invoice amount?

    Yes, but you should ensure that your payments clear in time to meet the due dates of your invoice.
  • When will the payment be taken from my card?

    The payment will be processed immediately, but the payment may not show as taken from your card straight away. Please check with your card issuer to find out how long this will take.
  • How do I know if a payment is successful?

    You will receive a printable confirmation receipt when the payment has been processed successfully. Please keep this for your records.
  • When do I receive confirmation that the payment has been taken?

    You will receive a printable confirmation receipt once your payment has been confirmed as successful.
  • Can I make a payment on behalf of someone else?

    You can make a payment on behalf of someone else. For guidance on how to do this please follow the instructions online.
  • Can I pay with someone else's card?

    If you intend to pay using a card which isn't yours the correct cardholder must be present and they must key in their own details.
  • My payment was declined but I want to make a payment by another method, what should I do?

    Please visit how can I pay or contact us to arrange payment by another method. Please note that you should not send card details by e-mail as no payments can be taken this way.
  • Can I amend my payment once it's been taken?

    You are not able to amend a payment once you have clicked 'confirm payment' but you can 'cancel' up to this point.  If you have overpaid an invoice you should contact us by telephone for further guidance.
  • I haven't received an invoice but want to pay, what should I do?

    You can only make a payment online if you have an invoice or reminder letter.  Please visit our payment selection service for more information.
  • I've tried to pay but the system isn't responding, what can I do?

    You can try to pay again later online, visit how can I pay or contact us by telephone to make a payment by another method.
  • My payment hasn't been confirmed, what should I do?

    • You will need to contact your card issuer to see if they are able to process your payment
    • You will need to contact us by telephone to make a payment by another method before any of your instalments are due
  • Can I make a payment now and pay the rest at a later date?

    Yes, you can make a payment by card now and again at a later date   You will need to ensure your payment reaches us on or before the date that it is due.
  • When do I receive confirmation that the payment has been taken?

    You will receive a printable confirmation receipt once your payment has been confirmed as successful.
  • I am having difficulty using the online payment facility, what should I do?

    If you are not coming into the University, you can make a card payment if you contact us by telephone. Please visit how can I pay for alternative methods.
  • My invoice has the wrong details on it, what should I do?

    You will need to contact us by telephone. To avoid delays please have your student number ready.

Account Information

  • I think I've overpaid, can you refund my card, what should I do?

    You should contact us for further guidance and to discuss if your account has been overpaid.
  • What do I need the confirmation receipt for?

    This is your official proof of payment.  It may be necessary to produce this to your employer/sponsor/parent/guardian as proof of payment or we may ask you to present it to us if you have an enquiry.
  • When should I pay?

  • I am taking out a maximum student loan for my fees do I still need to arrange to pay?

    If you have applied for a Student Tuition Fees Loan for full funding and had confirmation that your loan has been approved you do not need to make any payment to us as the Student Loan Company will pay your fees directly to the University.  However, if for any reason the SLC do not pay your fees, you will become liable and will therefore receive an invoice.
  • The document number I am entering cannot be found, what should I do?

    You should contact us for more information. Please note that we will only be able to discuss the account with you if you are the account holder.

    An account holder is:
    • a student that has been offered a place on a course who has or is intending to enrol; or
    • a company, organisation or person that we send an invoice to

  • How can I pay?

    At a bank using the giro slip on the bottom of your invoice. In person to our Finance Recovery Service at City Campus, Level 2, Surrey Building. Please remember to bring your SHUcard and invoice with you.

    By telephone +44 0114 2255668 and a member of the Finance Recovery Service will take your payment over the phone.

  • What library fines and charges can I pay for online?

    You can pay library fines for overdue or late renewed items, replacement charges for lost items or any other library charges.
  • How do I make a payment online?

    The online payment system will ask you to identify yourself first and then will ask what you would like to pay for. For further guidance when using the online payment system please click the 'help' button. No payments will be taken until you are asked to confirm payment.
  • Can I make a payment by another method?

    You can also pay at the Learning Centre Helpdesk by cash or card, by telephone on 0114 225 3333, option 3, or by sending a cheque . Contact us.
  • Can I make a payment for part of a fine?

    If you have multiple fines, you can select which individual fines to pay but you cannot pay a portion of an individual fine, all of the fine must be paid.
  • When will the payment be taken from my card?

  • Can I view my previous fine payments?

    No, to ask about previous payments, please contact us.
  • How do I know how much I owe in library fines?

  • How can I check that I have paid off my fines?

  • How do I work out how much money I owe on items I still have on loan?

    Check the 'items checked out' section in My Library Account.
  • I paid a fine online but it is still showing on my account?

    Wait 5 minutes, then check My Library Account again. If it is still showing you owe fines you have paid, then contact us.
  • Can I transfer my printing balance to pay for library fines?

    No, this is not possible.
  • I have paid for a book I lost but I found it - can I have a refund?

    Once paid, no monies are refundable.
  • What about fines for items I have not returned or renewed yet?

    Fines are not charged, but are still accumulated, until items are returned or renewed, so you cannot pay fines for overdue items which you have not yet returned or renewed.
  • Is there a minimum payment amount?

    There is no minimum payment amount.
  • Can external borrowers pay fines online?

    Only students can pay fines online. External borrowers can pay fines at the Learning Centre Helpdesk by cash or card, by telephone on 0114 225 3333, option 3, or by sending a cheque. Contact us.
